Budeez – Bremerton, WA
Budeez opened its doors April 2016 in the scenic Manette neighborhood of Bremerton — just a short ferry trip from Seattle and a ride over a funky bridge, where day trippers looking for kind bud might feel like they never even left the city. It’s almost like someone took a slice of Wallingford or Ballard, slowed it down a bit and dropped it right into a secret corner of Bremerton. Flanked by the local-legendary rock bar, Manette Saloon and a restaurant called The HB, Budeez has established itself smack dab in the middle of this up-and-coming neighborhood. It’s with good reason, too. The shop’s GM Jennye told me that many of the neighborhood’s businesses are owned and run by younger entrepreneurs which helps with the shop’s general acceptance into the community.
The People
Like many of the people involved in the recreational cannabis industry, the shop’s owner Ken Barley was active in the medical days. Once things went recreational, he teamed up with GM Jennye, who has a corporate background, to offer the community the same type of experience one would have found in a medical dispensary while still appealing to anyone new to cannabis. With a staff of 12 — including a medical consultant — everyone behind the counter at Budeez has experience with the product. From their famous “Wall of Joints” to their affordable selection of concentrates, Budeez has something for everyone!
The Community
As I mentioned before, a big part of the draw that Budeez has is rooted in the neighborhood they reside in. The shop includes a selection of local Tier I producers and have had lasting relationships with many of the producers and processors whose product they consistently carry, which is a boon for their regulars. Barley and Jennye aspire to achieve a lasting impression on their community and part of the way they do that is with their annual neighborhood event, Baked in Manette, during which many of the surrounding businesses offer specials, and Budeez hosts vendors that they work with so customers are able to learn more about the products sold at the shop. This year’s event will take place on September 14th from 3pm – 6pm, don’t miss it!
