Fidus PDX – Portland, OR
Located in the southwest hills of Multnomah Village, Fidus PDX is conveniently situated near the fringes of Lake Oswego and Tualatin, two cities where recreational cannabis is still prohibited. Entering the high-end atmosphere of Fidus PDX, I was awestruck by its elegance and simplicity: high-top table with two chairs, two counters and two shelves of canisters brimming with hand-crafted farm-to-shop flower. The swirly black marble floor entranced me; the natural light streaming in from the picture windows accentuated the high ceilings; the simple bowls holding flower under glass counters glistened.
The Product
Fidus PDX only sells flower and products made from cannabis grown by Fidus Family Farms. They’ve bred proprietary strains and have been gifted elite seeds and clones, many complete with “last-of-the-seed” stories which co-founder Tyler Hewitt loves telling when you stop by the shop! (Spoiler alert: the Grateful Dead will come up). Crop Circle Chocolate and Fidus PDX teamed up to create a line of divine-looking vegan truffles, and when I asked for a personal favorite, I got a look that said, “How am I supposed to choose between my children?” So instead I’m giving the nod to their Oregon Tsunami, a 2:1 CBD:THC cultivar of HarleTsu (Harlequin x Sour Tsunami) x Oregon Diesel.
The People
Hewitt and fellow co-founder John Monteleone III originally met in the eighth grade, and founded Fidus Family Farms to cultivate exotic, boutique cannabis for medical patients. After the legalization of recreational cannabis use, their business model evolved, and they brched out into new territory in the cannabis world: a vertically integrated farm-to-shop cannabis experience. Their store in the hills of Southwest Portland features the hand-crafted Fidus Family Farm strains Hewitt and Monteleone grow just a short drive away on their farm in North Portland.
