The Numerology of 420

It’s Our Favorite Number – But What Does it Mean?

Everyone knows “420” as a common call sign for weed. Some say these three numbers together signify toke time virtually anywhere in the world – but what do they mean? For more insight —and just for the heck of it —let’s examine those numbers astrologically.

Four is a number that is emotionally on fire! Mars, the fourth planet, signifies a willingness to fight and is associated with revolutions and warriors! The fourth astrological sign is Cancer, which signals an intuitive and protective person, focused on love and safety.

Murphy’s law is a popular axiom that states that “whatever can go wrong, will go wrong.” However, on four-days — April 4 or April 22 — for example, Murphy’s Law DOES NOT apply. So, make plans like crazy and feel confident things will play out without catastrophic consequences!

Two is a social, harmonious number. Venus, the second planet, is all about enjoying life, sitting back and enjoying the ride! The second astrological sign is Taurus, known for entities perpetually seeking the sensual pleasures of life.

The number two is a good omen. Signing agreements or making plans related to the number two is considered good luck. If you are trying to make up for mistakes or apologize, integrate the number two somehow into your plans. For all of those who want to defend monogamy in a relationship, I would agree that two is enough, three is too many! My last love interest happened to be married, a fact he forgot to mention to me — his wife let me know by text after breaking the code to his phone. Ahem, moving on…

Zero is the symbol of nothingness, signifying unlimited potential and freedom of choice. Zero is the basis of existence and the number of the Universe itself. There is no planet or astrological sign associated with the number zero because everyone and everything comes from zero. I like associating the number zero with blackness — the absence of color, or what absorbs all colors together. It is a symbol of strength and power. My favorite color is black, or at least that’s the color I wear most. But, my 1982 Datsun is yellow, with black tires! Black and yellow. Bumblebees. Bumblebees symbolize celebration and community. Sound familiar?

The numbers four, two and zero individually represent the themes of social interaction, empowerment and honor. The number 6, the sum of 4+2+0, is known as the perfect number because it is the sum of all of its divisors. The number six represents harmony and balance in the broadest sense, with a focus on social responsibility and service.

Though speculation regarding the true origination of 420 will probably never be wholly agreed upon, I think we can all agree that numerologically speaking, 420 is the most awesome symbol for what the cannabis revolution is all about: community, togetherness and an overall appreciation for living a good life.
